"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest their patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease."
Thomas A. Edison
Chiropractic is a healing science that places emphasis on maintaining the structural integrity and balance of the body. It is a natural form of healthcare that relies on a normally functioning nervous system to control and coordinate all the functions of the human body. It is the science of locating and correcting, through chiropractic adjustments, nerve interference, which can cause dysfunction within the body. Chiropractors have found that if there is pressure along the spine, it causes dysfunction and eventually pain, and other symptoms, frequently affecting muscles, joints, blood vessels, organs, and glands. The goal of chiropractic is to allow your body to heal itself and to function optimally, without the use of drugs or surgery. At the Center for Natural Medicine we also incorporate nutrition and herbs to bring your body back in to balance naturally.
Chiropractic is based on the premise that in order to maintain health; you must treat the cause not only the symptoms. We consider all aspects of the patient’s life: family history; work; lifestyle; environment; Diet; exercise programs; nutritional programs; and the patient’s physical and emotional well being. Chiropractic Physicians utilize appropriate diagnostic procedures (such as x-rays, MRI’s, EMG’S and sometimes blood work.) and conservative therapeutic interventions, with a primary focus on spinal manipulation, nutrition, diet and exercise. Chiropractic Physicians have broad diagnostic skills and readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider when chiropractic care is not suitable to the patient's condition.
Chiropractic is a science soundly based in anatomy and physiology. Inside our body is a spinal column of 7 neck or cervical bones (called vertebrae), 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebrae, a triangular bone called the sacrum, and the tail bone called the coccyx. This vertebral column surrounds and protects the spinal cord. The spinal cord is part of the central nervous system and carries information to and from the brain. It tells the brain exactly what is going on the cellular level within the body and brings from the brain the power to accomplish whatever needs to be done. In between each of the vertebrae is a space for individual spinal nerves to exit and enter.
When the body is traumatized as by an accident, a fall, or even constant poor posture (student, secretary, computer operator), muscles that attach to the vertebrae go into spasm, ligaments stretch or tear, causing a restructuring of the spine. This restructuring distorts the proper spinal angles and vertebral positions. As a result, the spaces between the vertebrae are altered causing irritation to the nerves. In chiropractic, we call this vertebral subluxation complex.
If somebody put a rubber band on your hand how long would it take to hurt or become numb and tingly? A similar process happens at the spine. Wherever the nerve travels will be affected. There may be excess activity or underactivity. If the nerve is connected with the bladder, you'll either have frequent urges to urinate or hardly ever have an urge. If the nerve is connected with your arm, you'll have pain from spasm, weakness from muscles not functioning. The nerve always feeds the immediate area of the spine causing pain or tenderness in that area.
In short, the nervous system must be kept clear of interference for the body to function. Distortion of the spine creates blockage in the nervous system causing dysfunction in the body. You can surely understand that if subluxation is left uncorrected, the usual course is DYSFUNCTION ... DISEASE ... DEATH.
"As with other health care disciplines, chiropractic is committed to accountability and predictability in obtaining measurable outcomes. These would include, but are not limited to, pain, physical function, and patient satisfaction." (Dobson 1997)
Although other practitioners may also administer manipulation (including some Osteopathic doctor’s), Chiropractors are the most common providers of the treatment, delivering approximately 94 percent of the manipulation reimbursed by health insurance (Shekelle 1992). This extensive experience combined with the patient-centered focus of DCs makes them the providers of choice for spinal manipulation.
Chiropractic occupies a unique place in modern health care. On the one hand, it draws upon modern scientific knowledge and techniques. On the other, it utilizes ancient concepts of self-healing vitalism, life energy, harmony, natural healing, the innate wisdom of the body and "disease". Chiropractic teaches us that the best way to improve our health is by removing the elements that interfere with normal body function. Along with spinal nerve stress these include: drugs, pollution, chemicals, unnatural or damaging childbirth practices, unnatural foods, anxiety, tension, and other forms of emotional distress.
So, if you're tired of being sick and tired, worn out from the medical run around, and looking for a natural method of regaining health and wholeness, without polluting your body with chemicals, why not join the millions who have discovered the wonders of this amazing health care system? Call the The Center for Natural Medicine today. You will be glad you did. 330-644-7246
Chiropractic believes that the body's health is centered on the condition of your spine and the nervous system. By adjusting the bones of your spine, not only will the pain be relieved, but also the nervous system will be able to operate correctly.
