The FDA is considering rules changes that would allow irradiated food producers to change their labeling. Since many people are rightly concerned about the possible health affects of food that has been treated with radiation, the food industry wants to rename it to trick consumers — "electronically pasteurized" or "cold pasteurized" are the terms they're throwing about — and the FDA is in on it. According to DemocracyInAction.org, the FDA is proposing 'a rule that would allow the use of the term "pasteurized" on some types of irradiated food and not require any labeling on others.'
